How do we find Canada's fastest growing sustainable companies?

Future 50 Resources
The Future 50 is a list of fastest growing Canadian companies whose business activities align with the transition to a global clean economy.

Out of a pool of 6,115 (1,100 public, 4,015 private) companies, it includes:

  • The 25 publicly traded companies with the highest year-over-year (YoY) % clean revenue growth; 
  • The 25 private companies with the highest % increase in capital raised over the last two rounds
Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for publicly-listed companies: % YoY Clean Revenue Growth
Minimum eligibility requirements for publicly-listed companies:

– Companies listed on a Canadian stock exchange. 

 – Has experienced a growth in revenue year-over-year over the two most recently available fiscal year

 – Earns at least 50% of its revenue from clean business activities as determined by the Corporate Knights Clean Taxonomy

– Minimum revenue threshold of C$100,000

 

KPI for private companies: Growth % in Capital Raised (last two rounds)
Minimum eligibility requirements for private companies:

– Companies whose primary office location is in Canada as determined from companies’ website, S&P Capital IQ (geographic location of primary office = Canada) and/or Refinitiv (Country of headquarters = Canada)

 – Has experienced growth in the last round of equity private placement in comparison to the preceding round

 – Earns at least 50% of its revenue from clean business activities as determined by the Corporate Knights Clean Taxonomy

Determination of the starting universe:

 – Companies listed on the sources below were included in the starting universe

 – For publicly-traded companies, revenue data (where available) for the two most recently available fiscal years were gathered. For private companies, private equity placements data for the last two rounds, primarily from data aggregators such as S&P Capital IQ and Refinitiv

-1,100 publicly traded companies listed on Canadian exchanges or with Canadian headquarters

-4,015 private companies with head offices located in Canada which have had at least two private equity placements in the past 10 years

-Additional private companies identified from below sources*
